Jesus responded to the anger of Pharisees and teachers of the Law by telling them the prodigal son parable. He told it in three parts: (1) the lost sheep, (2) the lost coin, and (3) the lost sons.

The Older Son
Without the costly efforts of the father, the older son will drown in his own anger.

The Younger Son
When the starving younger son returned from the far country, he did not want to reconcile with his father. Rather, he returned to get something to eat. Yet the father’s costly demonstrations of love, helped the son see his father in a new light.
